12 Movies To Get You Excited For Winter Break

There’s a lot to love about the winter break: time off school, holiday celebrations, tons of food, sleeping-in, and of course the holiday-centric movies!

Who says we need to wait to the break to start watching our favourite holiday flicks? These movies are the perfect thing to watch (in between studying for exams of course), to get you excited for time off and celebrations this winter break:

Die Hard

It may be the most uncharacteristic Christmas movie to be made — but this action movie is in fact a Christmas movie. Many may disagree, but if you ask us nothing quite screams “Holiday Season” quite like Bruce Willis saving the world on Christmas Eve.

Four Christmases

Because no other film accurately portrays what it’s like maneuvering the holiday season between multiple families.

Winter Break

This cheesy teens-gone-wild flick from the early 2000s is on this list not only because of its name, but because it stars Gilmore Girls and This Is Us’ Milo Ventimiglia

The Harry Potter Movies

Let's not forget that one of the best parts of these movies are when our favourite wizards go home for winter break, or spend the downtime at Hogwarts getting into mischief over the holidays. The gift exchange scenes are just the cherry on top!

Home Alone

You can’t have the holiday’s without Home Alone. It’s just not possible. This movie is a must watch every year around this time — even if its just to make us ask that question of,  how a family can forget a child on vacation?

A Christmas Prince

He’s a misunderstood prince, she’s a journalist undercover, and the Netflix original is jam packed with corny, cheesy fun. This movie was Netflix’s first foray into rom-com holiday flicks, and we’re so excited for all the other ones the network has in store. We’re so ready to Netflix & Christmas.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

There is something about this fantastical tale that just gets us ready for the beauty and magic of snow. You know, before it turns into slush and ruins all of our favourite boots.

Love Actually

What is a holiday movie list without this British classic? Love Actually follows a wide cast of characters played by some of our favourite British actors (Martin Freeman, Keira Knightley, Alan Rickman, Emma Thompson etc).

The Santa Clause

Winter break isn’t winter break without holiday celebrations — and what better way to get ready for the holidays than a marathon of one of the most iconic Christmas series to ever exist. Tim Allen as an unexpecting man who stumbles upon a deceased Santa (morbid, sorry) ends up forced to become Santa himself. Hilarity and a whole lot of holiday spirit ensue.

Elf

It doesn’t feel like Christmas until we have rewatched our favourite quirky Elf. There is something undeniably festive about Will Ferrell dressed like an oversized toddler excited for the holidays. Who would have thought that the story of an elf’s quest to find Santa and find Christmas would become such a staple? Plus, bonus points go to Zooey Deschanel singing Baby It’s Cold Outside.

You’ve Got Mail

This classic rom-com is one of the best movies to get you in the holiday spirit, and ready to sit on your couch with friends and a too-large bowl of popcorn. Any movie that has the characters singing a cheesy Christmas song is a solid feel-good flick in our books.

The Nightmare Before Christmas

Some of us struggle making the quick transition from Halloween to Christmas mode okay? Let us have this.

Waterloo, holidays, christmas, snow
