8 Things To Do During The Provincial Lockdown

Declutter the Marie Kondo Way

Dedicate your new-found time and attention to sorting out your belongings. While many people associate Marie Kondo’s method with tidying, it's really about discarding items that lack value. To determine what makes the cut, she has you start by removing everything out of your closets and drawers (category one), all the books off your shelves (category two), all the paperwork out of your desk and bins (you get the idea). Once you have a big pile, you're to go item-by-item and consider if it sparks joy.

Because you're actively choosing items that spark joy, and discarding what doesn't, you’ll end up with a clutter-free space that is better able to bring more joy and prosperity to your life.

What you'll need: Good music, some vacuum storage bags, containers and a 'does it spark joy?' mindset.

Sharpen your cooking skills

If you didn't quite master cooking skills during the first lockdown, maybe it's time you try again and start with the basics. If you can't be bothered, and just want convenience, check out this link of the best meal kits in Canada.

What you'll need: Basic skills.

Read a New York Times Bestseller

It's time to read that book that's been sat on your shelf for the last few months or years. Get inspired by a best-selling memoir or escape to a different world for a few hours.

What you'll need: Books, hot drinks, and a warm blanket.

Exercise

Since our gyms are closed, replace your gym visit with an at-home work-out. Transform a space in your bedroom/common area into an exercise space. Get a good workout by using your bodyweight or simple pieces of kit such as dumbbells, kettlebells or a suspension trainer. Even as you grow stronger and fitter, by increasing your reps, or simply slowing down – or speeding up – the tempo of your exercises, you can progress your workouts and the effectiveness of them.

What you'll need: A yoga mat and laptop (or your phone).

DIY

There are countless things you can make in the comfort of your bedroom. Two of our favorites are knitting and soap makings. Knitting is not just for grandma; it’s considered incredibly therapeutic and practical.

Soap making is super easy and relaxing. You can add food colouring and any scent you love. Nothing is more important right now than washing your hands. Why not wash your hands with a soap you made yourself?

What you'll need: A knitting kit and soap making kit

Learn a language

Challenge yourself to learn a new language in just a few weeks, ready for your next trip away. With a ton of apps and websites that give you lessons for free; you've truly run out of excuses not to.

What you'll need: Your phone or computer.

Call your friends and family

The chances are you're not the only one that's self-isolating and people will appreciate a friendly chat or video calls to let them know you're thinking of them. Call your grandparents to check on them or update your parents with the most up-to-date memes.

What you'll need: A phone charger (there will be some long conversations)

Let your creative juices flow

Start on a creative arts and crafts challenge, from sketching to mindful colouring. Whether it be paper and pens, or colouring apps can be relaxing as well.

What you'll need: Colouring templates, colouring books and pencils.
